Poor Best

The Steamer DM Wilson was relocated on July 17, 2007 by The Wright View search video (www.TheWrightView.com) 3 years after finding an anchor and debris trail at the location of her reported sinking location.  Her hull was located over a mile from where she was reported sunk.

This add to the finding of 109’ of sidewall, 114’ of bottom, and the rudder of the James Davidson discovered in 2003, along with both sidewheels, the 4 boilers, steam drum and fire brick of the sidewheel steamer Benjamin Franklin.  The Franklin was built in 1842 and sunk in 1850 by running aground on Thunder Bay Island.  The Davidson was built in 1870 and also ran aground in 1894 on Thunder Bay Island.  .  The locations of these findings have been provided to Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary.  For more information on these and other Thunder Bay shipwrecks visit www.TBscuba.com/WreckSites.html.
